?Ville “Villese” J?ms? enters Warlords following an excellent performance at Red Bull Wololo: Legacy 2022 Age of Empires II, where he won against Patricio “Capoch” Olmo (2-0), Guilherme “dogao” Pippi (2-1), and Gan “Yo” Yangfan (3-1), but had to admit defeat to Kai “Liereyy” Kallinger (0-3) in the semifinals.

Huy “ACCM” Hoang also attended the tournament but failed to achieve as much, as he crashed out of the group stage with defeats against Roberto “TaToH” Jiménez (1-2) and Mr_Yo (1-2). But even though ACCM didn’t reach the playoffs, his only defeats came against the eventual champion and Mr_Yo, who consistently does well (9-2) against the Vietnamese AoE II pro.

Villese has met with ACCM ten times throughout his career and five times in 2022. Of those five meetings, the Finn has won three, which includes a 3-2 victory during RMS Cup 2 in July. But with that victory, VIllese is 1-2 across their last three meetings with a 3-8 map record.

Villese looks like a stronger player on paper, but that’s mainly due to his deep run at Red Bull Wololo last month. And even though his form makes him the most likely victor, Villese has struggled against ACCM before.

?Roberto “TaToH” Jiménez claimed his first S-tier AoE II tournament trophy of the year at the end of October when he won Red Bull Wololo: Legacy 2022 Age of Empires II. With that, TaToH has now placed third or better across the last three AoE II events, but it’s not like TaToH playing well is a new thing.

Even though TaToH has collected a few disappointing tournament runs in August-September, those were mainly AoE IV events. More importantly, TaToH has won 12 of the last 17 AoE II competitions and currently holds 2355 tournament ELO – the highest in the world, ahead of ACCM (2353).

Miguel “miguel” Dornelles is no.20 on the ladder with 2176 tournament ELO and a 55% series win rate. That’s not particularly bad, but the Brazilian AoE II esports pro has not won a single event in 222, while his best placement came in March when he reached the finals of World Rumble.

TaToH has met with miguel in just three online events since 2019 and is 2-1 up in the series, but only 9-6 in games won. So even though TaToH is undeniably the better player, online matches between these two players tend to be a bit closer, so we’ll trust miguel to win at least one game on Thursday.

?Huy “ACCM” Hoang is mostly known for his strong record against other Vietnamese AoE II players, but he can hold his own against international talent. The 32-year-old enters this match with a 7-2 record across his last nine, which is excellent even though he has not beaten any big-name players.

Marco “JorDan_AoE” Bloch has had a solid start to the 2021 season, but he fell off in recent months. He still deserves some praise for finishing Red Bull Wololo V inside the top-four, but that tournament happened way back in September, and he hasn’t achieved much since.

This should be a very close match between two strong candidates to qualify from the group; however, based on their recent performances, it’s tough to say which is a better player. JorDan_AoE won this bout 3-1 in October, but it was a very close match, so we have to take ACCM at plus money.

?Even though Group B is very stacked, we can confidently say Morten “MbL” Levernes is in a favourable spot to finish inside the top four. He might not be as good as ?rjan “TheViper” Larsen and Hamzah “Hera” El-Baher, but he is still a class above the rest.

That includes Dmitriy “Vinchester” Smirnov, who has had some solid showing, including a top-four finish at Red Bull Wololo IV, but he has not won anything of note this year. MbL is in the same boat – without a single tournament win – but he placed top-four at the Red Bull Wololo V in September, losing only against two eventual finalists in Kai “Liereyy” Kallinger and TheViper.

MbL and Vinchester are tied at 1-1 in the head to head, but their last meeting happened way back in 2016, so that record hardly means anything. The “Master Boar Lamer” should be able to win, and while there’s a world where we see a 2-0 sweep (+162), we’re happy with [rm_Geo_odds val=1.64] offered on the moneyline bet.

The king of unfinished castles, Darko “DauT” Dautovic, will clash with the no.1 Argentinian AoE II player, Nicolás “Nicov” Bruno, in the first round of Group A. It will mark DauT’s fifth head-to-head meeting with Nicov (4-1) and his first since Red Bull Wololo V in September when the Serb won 2-0.

The esports bookmakers have DauT priced as a favourite, but we find him a bit overpriced at -156.25. While Nicov is talented and on a six-game winning streak, he has consistently underdelivered against the elite AoE II players.

As efficient as Nicov can be in defeating lower-rated opponents, he does not come off as a proper contender for big tournament titles. DauT had some slip-ups against weaker opponents last month, but it’s hard not to bet on him at the offered betting odds.

Ville “Villese” J?ms? will clash with Roberto “TaToH” Jiménez for the second time of the year, and the first time since September, when TaToH won 2-1. With that win, the Spanish AoE II pro improved his all-time head-to-head record to 3-1; however, he is only 8-7 up in maps won.

So even though TaToH is a far more recognisable name in the AoE II esports world, he has struggled against Villese before, namely across their last three meetings (2-1, 0-3, 3-2).

We don’t see a problem with the esports bookmakers pricing TaToH as the favourite since he seems to be one of the strongest players in the group – besides Darko “DauT” Dautovic, Kai “Liereyy” Kallinger, and Gan “Yo” Yangfan – but +277 on Villese is way too high. Value is with the underdog.
