Hanwha Life Esports humiliated T1 in the second round with a 3-0 sweep; however, that victory comes with a giant asterisk. After the game, T1 players stated they’d been hit with DDoS attacks and were unable to scrim or play solo queue matches recently, which greatly affected their performance on Thursday.
Even though this could have harmed T1’s ability to perform, Hanwha Life Esports still played well. So, while some might undervalue the result, Hanwha Life Esports deserve praise for what they showed in the second round.
Gen.G made it to the LCK 2024 Spring upper bracket finals with a close 3-2 victory against Dplus KIA, but they’re priced as firm favourites against Hanwha Life Esports. This is fair and has to do with how the two teams like to play.
Hanwha Life Esports have been a passive LOL team, waiting for their opponents to make mistakes rather than being more proactive. They have improved in that aspect lately, but counter-punching still is Hanwha Life Esports’ approach to most of their games.
And while it worked against T1, it’s highly doubtful it will work against Gen.G. Unlike T1, Gen.G are far less likely to make mistakes and aren’t as prone to taking risky plays. This creates a stylistic nightmare for Hanwha Life Esports, even though they shouldn’t fear being run over by Gen.G early. In fact, Hanwha Life Esports have consistently put themselves in advantageous positions against other top teams this split.
Hanwha Life Esports have already made it further than expected, and while they are strong, making it past Gen.G will be easier said than done. With side choice and stylistic advantage, Gen.G should win with a couple of maps to spare.
